The parade route
According to the city, the parade will stage at Fireworks City, cross Canada Road, come up past Chick-fil-A and then wind through the streets of The Lake District. Viewing areas will be along Lake District Drive.
Want to be in it? There’s no theme this year, but there are prizes for favorite band, best marching group and most festive float. Groups can apply with the city’s float application.
Why the move
Last year’s drone show at IH Park drew thousands, and city staff said parking and traffic around the I.H. Clubhouse were the biggest headaches. In July, the Board of Commissioners unanimously approved moving the event to The Lake District and folding the parade into the same night, Lakeland Currents reported. The city partnered with Romspen Investment Corporation, which owns the development.
Sky Elements LLC is back to fly 250 drones in a 12-minute synchronized show. Mayor Josh Roman told Lakeland Currents the length is capped by battery life, and that this year’s show will lean more on the Christmas story while bringing back favorites like Santa, snowmen and Christmas lights. The Lakeland Prep marching band is also set to perform in the parade.
Mark one more date
Before all that, the city’s tree lighting and Cookies with Santa is Saturday, Nov. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at IH Managerial Park, 4523 Canada Road.
