Lakeland Prep has a name on the Mr. Football shortlist. Senior quarterback Brett Godwin is one of five Division I Class 4A Tennessee Titans Mr. Football semifinalists, the TSSAA announced Wednesday, Nov. 4.

The shortlist: Godwin joins Jaden Butler (Haywood), Taren Claridy (Greeneville), Jermaine Cobbins (Springfield) and Micah Jones (Alcoa) as the Class 4A semifinalists. Five players were named in each classification and in the Kicker of the Year category.

How they pick them: A committee of statewide sports writers selected the semifinalists based on 2026 regular-season performance. Academics and character were also considered. High school head coaches and members of the media nominated the players.

What’s next: Three finalists in each category will be unveiled Tuesday, Nov. 24, on Titans Football with Robert Saleh, presented by SeatGeek, airing on WKRN News 2 at 6:30 p.m. CT. The announcement will also stream at 7 p.m. CT on the Titans website, app and social channels. Awards night is Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. Winners get a Mr. Football trophy; the other two finalists get a plaque; remaining semifinalists receive a certificate.

This is the 42nd year of the Mr. Football Awards and the 20th consecutive year with the Titans involved.

“We are very excited and appreciative about being involved with the Tennessee Titans for the 20th consecutive year,” TSSAA executive director Mark Reeves said in the association’s announcement. “They have helped make the recognition of these 50 student-athletes, their families, and schools possible.”

Around town: Godwin is listed as a senior quarterback on Lakeland Prep’s TSSAA football roster. The Daily Memphian named him Memphis Player of the Week in mid-September after a big game, and The Lakeland Banner profiled his midseason start later that month. The Lions (7-3) host Jackson North Side on Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs — Lakeland Prep’s first home playoff game.

Go Lions.
