The gist: Lakeland Preparatory School (LPS) has its Teacher of the Year candidate. It’s math teacher Dr. Casey Greer, who was surprised in her classroom with roses and a card.

Who she is

The Lakeland School System announced on Facebook on Oct. 30 that Greer is in her third year teaching Geometry and Algebra at LPS. She currently teaches Algebra I and Geometry, and she has also taught Algebra II during her nine-year career.

What LPS says

The LPS Administration shared this about Greer:

“Since joining our math department two years ago, Dr. Greer has jumped head first into the LPS community. She is currently charged with Algebra I and Geometry, but has also taught Algebra II throughout her 9 year career. Dr. Greer’s goal is to create a space where kids are free to learn, grow, and persevere through challenges without the fear of failure. “I know not every student will love math,” she says, “but if they can leave my room at the end of the year feeling more confident than they came in, I will have succeeded.” Her peers agree that her drive to help kids academically is the best they’ve seen and she makes LPS better in every aspect. We congratulate her on this most deserving award!”

Busy day for Teacher of the Year news

Earlier the same day, Lakeland Elementary named kindergarten teacher Tammy Madden its candidate. Read about Madden here.

The district’s post didn’t say what comes next for this year’s candidates. In the last cycle, the district honored three Teachers of the Year, one for each grade band (K-4, 5-8 and 9-12), and recognized them at school board meetings in February and March 2026.

Congratulations, Dr. Greer. #RoarMore
